M40, M42, M6 toll

Tuesday morning we loaded the Enterprise Hire car (a Toyota Rav4 hybrid) and set off north staying the night with George's sister and hubby Paul at Biddulph, North Staffordshire.
By 9 on Wednesday morning we were on the road again, the satnav taking us through narrow country lanes over Mow Cop to rejoin the M6 and M74 towards Glasgow and onwards to the west coast to stay with our daughter and her family for a few days.
Thursday we visited Doune Castle

Where Outlander,  Monty Python and the Holy Grail was filmed and stars as Winterfell Castle in Game of Thrones.  It was also the location for filming the mini-series of Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe in 1996.
Our eldest grandson Adam, George, daughter Sharon and eldest granddaughter Louise

Once home of the Stewart family

Playing with shadows!

Through the windows

The pictures are in no particular order - I couldn't keep up with family's antics who were wandering all over the place!

Dressing up in the shop

It was after 2 when we left Doune - time for some lunch at the Buttercup Cafe in Doune

Walking back to the care I spied the street sign for The Pistol Factory.  The earliest surviving pistol was manufactured here in 1678.

A leisurely walk back to the car after a fun day out!
